11 September 2018

The Managing Director of a Worcester-based chartered insurance broker has been awarded an MBA from a UK business school that is ranked number one in the world for its DLMBA – Masters Degree in Business – courses.

Gordon Hazelton, from Hazelton Mountford – Worcester’s only insurance broker to be awarded chartered status – has graduated from Warwick Business School with a Masters Degree in Business.

Ranked number one in the world by The Financial Times, Warwick Business School is part of the University of Warwick.

Gordon, who began the distance learning course in January 2015, explained :”I am delighted to have achieved an MBA; I decided that in order to acquire the business skills that are needed to grow Hazelton Mountford into a medium sized regional business, learning from top business academics would be hugely beneficial.  I am essentially an insurance broker who has learnt how to do business.  The course has allowed me to marry the two together to ensure that both insurance and business aims are met, for the overarching benefit of both the company and our clients.”

Gordon, who was awarded a merit, concluded : “I am immensely proud to have graduated from such a world class institution as Warwick Business School.  Not only have learnt academic theory, I have also had access to latest research and knowledge that would normally only be accessible for large corporate organisations.”

Professor John Rudd, Gordon’s dissertation supervisor, and Head of the Marketing Group at Warwick Business School said : “As with all our students, we would like to congratulate Gordon on his success in obtaining his Master’s degree.  Combining work and study is certainly no mean feat!  We are always heartened to hear that our course has such an impact both personally and professionally.  We wish the firm, and Gordon, all the best for the future.”

The company – which was launched by Gordon Hazelton and Jake Mountford – has seen phenomenal growth since it first opened its doors in 2008.  From small beginnings, the company now employs 30 employees across its three companies within the group.

The company – which provides insurance in a number of sectors including business, property, transport and equine – works with a range of clients from small local charities to international corporate firms.

The company has ambitious growth plans over the next few years including opening new offices and recruiting more employees.

The board of directors is made up of Gordon Hazelton, Managing Director, Jake Mountford, Director and Simeon Chapman, Director.
